Multitaper Approach for Detection of Periodic Forced Oscillations in Power Systems PROJECT TITLE : Detection of Periodic Forced Oscillations in Power Systems Using Multitaper Approach ABSTRACT: Thomson's multitaper spectral estimation and harmonic analysis techniques are used to detect and estimate the frequency of periodic forced oscillations in a Power System.. Synchrophasor measurements are all that is needed to work constantly in an online environment, and the method does not require any knowledge about the system other than synchrophasor measurements. The threshold is obtained from general formulations of the test statistic's distribution and the chance of false alarm, and it is used to compare a test statistic derived solely from measurements. An explicit probability of detection expression and simulation studies are used to evaluate the detector's performance. When applied to field-measured synchrophasor data, results show that the algorithm can be used to detect forced oscillations in the Power System in practise. Did you like this research project?
