Multiple Conversion Ratio Resonant Switched-Capacitor Converter With Active Zero Current Detection - 2015

PROJECT TITLE:

Multiple Conversion Ratio Resonant Switched-Capacitor Converter With Active Zero Current Detection - 2015

ABSTRACT:

This paper introduces an energetic methodology for zero current switching for resonant switched capacitor converters (SCC) with wide dynamic vary. The technique is demonstrated on a binary SCC that options wide selection of conversion ratios. Due to the resultant high potency of the converter operating beneath soft-switching conditions, it is applicable for higher power levels up to the medium power range (100 W). The resonant operation is achieved with one air core inductor and precise commutation at zero current. The sensing signals of the resonant currents are obtained from the flying capacitors instead of type element in which this includes a dc element. The zero detection technique developed is capable of compensating for both the processing delays (from detection to switching action) and for the massive variations of the resonant characteristics (because of transition between subcircuits), and for any different part variations. A 100 W prototype with maximum input voltage of a hundred V and up to nineteen conversion ratios has been engineered and tested experimentally. The present sensing has been implemented with a straightforward, price-efficient, passive sensor. For correct construction of a better power experimental prototype with desired target potency, a set of design considerations for the selection of the facility stage parts, primarily based on an expanded equivalent resistance concept for multiple subcircuits converter, has been delineated. Also, a easy and economical isolated gate driver circuitry is presented.
