FMTCP: A Fountain Code-Based Multipath Transmission Control Protocol

PROJECT TITLE :

FMTCP: A Fountain Code-Based Multipath Transmission Control Protocol

ABSTRACT:

Ideally, the throughput of a Multipath TCP (MPTCP) connection should be as high as that of multiple disjoint single-path TCP flows. Actually, the throughput of MPTCP is much lower than expected. In this paper, we have a tendency to conduct an in depth simulation-based mostly study on this phenomenon, and the results indicate that a subflow experiencing high delay and loss severely affects the performance of different subflows, thus turning into the bottleneck of the MPTCP association and considerably degrading the combination goodput. To tackle this problem, we have a tendency to propose Fountain code-based mostly Multipath TCP (FMTCP), that effectively mitigates the negative impact of the heterogeneity of various ways. FMTCP takes advantage of the random nature of the fountain code to flexibly transmit encoded symbols from the identical or different data blocks over different subflows. Moreover, we tend to design a data allocation algorithm primarily based on the expected packet arriving time and decoding demand to coordinate the transmissions of various subflows. Quantitative analyses are provided to indicate the advantage of FMTCP. We tend to conjointly evaluate the performance of FMTCP through ns-2 simulations and demonstrate that FMTCP outperforms IETF-MPTCP, a typical MPTCP approach, when the ways have numerous loss and delay in terms of upper total goodput, lower delay, and jitter. Additionally, FMTCP achieves high stability under abrupt changes of path quality.
