Design, Manufacture, and Measurement of a Low-Cost Reflectarray for Global Earth Coverage

PROJECT TITLE :

Design, Manufacture, and Measurement of a Low-Cost Reflectarray for Global Earth Coverage

ABSTRACT:

During this work, a coffee-value reflectarray with isoflux pattern for global Earth coverage is intended, manufactured, and measured at thirty GHz. The isoflux template is mathematically derived for a generic satellite and then particularized for a geostationary orbit. In order to cut back prices, the synthesis and design processes must be accordingly adapted. Initial, the most easy unit cell is selected, consisting of one layer of rectangular patches backed by a ground plane. This cell isn't able to provide a 360$^ circ $ section range, and thus the synthesis algorithm has to be changed to include a phase constraint to match the vary provided by the part, guaranteeing at the same time a smooth variation of the elements in order to get a reliable design. This is more ensured by limiting the patch size to a given vary throughout the design method. Finally, the reflectarray is manufactured and measured, showing sensible agreement with the simulations.
