Proximity Detection with RFID: A Step Toward the Internet of Things

PROJECT TITLE :

Proximity Detection with RFID: A Step Toward the Internet of Things

ABSTRACT:

In the Internet of Things (IoT), things will be able to sense, communicate, and interact. They can additionally exchange knowledge and data and find themselves and different things that surround them. To interact, the things should recognize that they're in proximity of different things. It's anticipated that a widespread component of the IoT can be passive RFID tags, as a result of they're inexpensive and give automatic identification. But, passive RFID tags can't perform complex operations, like proximity detection and localization. In this article, the authors describe existing problems with current RFID systems and survey potential solutions for proximity detection. They then gift a brand new RFID device, called "Sense-a-Tag" (ST), which will passively detect and decode backscatter signals from tags in its proximity. The authors show that when STs are added to a standard RFID system, the issues of proximity detection within the IoT with RFID tags will readily be resolved. They demonstrate the feasibility of an ST-based mostly RFID system through proximity detection experiments.
